"Say, do you like music?" the pushy man at the record store counter asked me. I thought the question was rather vague, but my parents taught me never to lie. I figured I needed to answer honestly.
"Sure I do."
"Well come on, then. Buy this album!" He showed me a copy of Chris Deburgh, 20th Century Masters and began ringing it up. I was also told not to refuse the kindness of strangers, or something along those lines, and no amount of sophistry could get me out of this one anyway. I wasn't that quick on my feet, really, and what was the point of arguing?
A few years later, I used the same technique, or tactic, if you will, on Mary Henderson.
"Say, Mary, do you like sex?"
I knew Mary had received the same sort of child rearing that I had, for our parents were good friends.
"Sure I do," she replied.
We made love that night, though she cried for what seemed like hours and hours afterwards.
"Say, Mary, do you like keeping secrets?"

03/29/2005 Will Disney: author, i'm unconvinced.
03/29/2005 The Rid (3): Funny, but underwritten.
03/29/2005 Klause Muppet: Why is Mary upset? Do they have to keep their relationship a secret?
03/29/2005 TheBuyer: I bet she's 8.
03/29/2005 anonymous: That's fucking sick Buyer. Actually, reminds me of a short I once did with a guy and his acoustic guitar. Gosh, those were the days.

03/30/2005 Litcube: Can we get some votes all up in this bitch?
03/30/2005 The Rid: Well, I already voted, but if you keep posting comments, maybe it will become a hot short, thus inspiring people to vote.
03/30/2005 Will Disney: i'd probably give it a two, litcube. want me to vote?
03/30/2005 The Rid: DISNEY: Is your lack of voting more of a, "I'm not voting in order to NOT bring the average of this short down?" or is it something else? And did I ask you that before?
03/30/2005 Klause Muppet: That's a good question Rid. Well Disney????
03/30/2005 Klause Muppet (3): Sorry Litcube - Here's my vote. I liked this short, though I was confused with a few things (See below). Am I being silly Author?
03/30/2005 Partytime (3): Cuddly, Fuzzy, Furry.
03/30/2005 Turgid: Klause - he's asking her if she likes keeping secrets because he assumes she does, in which case she'll say yes and hopefully, in fact, keep it secret. It's either a weak attempt to make her feel a little better, because he's feeling guilty, or simply a way to ensure the secrecy of what just happened, because he's a jerk and doesn't want people to find out how he tricked her.
03/30/2005 TheBuyer: Because she's 8 though, right?
