In the twilight of his career it struck him, this realization, with a kind of force and clarity he had heard spoken of in a Lit class taken long, long ago (to satisfy a major requirement). He'd always had the casual confidence of an organized project planner who formulates strategies, prioritizes tasks and implements actions. But was he really a hard working analytical individual who develops innovative solutions to complex issues? Or was that a lie he told the world to get from one meeting to another, from one milestone to the next. Was anyone all of those things? Could they be? Maybe he was appointed to the Regional Advisory Council on nothing more than his good looks. Maybe it was time to take an unflinching look at his annual quota attainment, unweighted. Staring down at the resume, still warm, sitting in the printer's non-judgmental tray, he felt his world slowly fall apart (a sensation he vaguely remembered reading about from a 200 level philosophy course he took his sophomore year at Valdosta State University where he finished near the top of his class).
