Ever since the amputation of my legs, I've been unable to hold my liquor. Oh, it makes perfect sense, of course. I've lost 90 pounds of 'ballast' from my circulatory system, leaving me with the body weight of a 12 year old girl. Still, it's hard to get used to, and it was completely unanticipated. I mean, it's a change of great practical importance, but none of the myriad doctors, nurses or physical therapists ever touched on it. The wheelchair and handicapped loo I can get used to, but getting drunk off a beer and a half is, well, an indignity.
