“I don’t care if everyone hates me, as long as they respect me,” said Kurdish Jerry, looking into the star-shaped mirror and adjusting the lapels on his threadbare smoking jacket.

“But they ain't gonna respect you, Jerry,” said Jonesy, the ventriloquist’s dummy, slumped in the corner. “They’re all gonna laugh at you! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!”

The laughter reverberated unrealistically in the small dressing room.

“No!” Jerry screamed, covering his ears. But the laughter only grew louder, the room only spun faster and there was a fish-eye effect whenever he looked at Jonesy’s face. He stumbled across the room and wrapped his hands around the dummy’s throat.

“C’mon Jerry,” Jonesy sputtered, coughing. “Forget about them. It’s you and me, kid. We’re gonna show them who’s king. We’re gonna make them sorry they ever cancelled Kurdish Jerry's No-Fly Zone. Now stick your hand up my ass and make me live, dammit!”
