Before the time of yore, there was the time of gore. It was unlike the time of yore in that it wasn’t all old fashioned. It was actually futuristic in a lot of ways. Some people have compared it to Star Wars, because it was “a long time ago” even though it had some futuristic technology. But it wasn’t all about spaceships and the force. I always felt it was maybe more like A Clockwork Orange. The movie in particular and not so much the ultra-violence as the sets and the art direction. The time of gore had a lot of white rooms sparsely populated by immaculate modern furniture and crowded nooks with bright patterned wallpaper. I found myself there one night and followed a staircase that led down into a brilliant white tunnel. The floor and walls of the tunnel were covered in large glowing white tiles. I walked down the tunnel toward what maybe appeared to be the perimeter of a small underground shopping plaza, and came up from behind a kiosk of some kind. When I got to it I turned around to see what it was. It was a gleaming Lucite electric guitar casting rainbows of refracted light on a glowing white wall.
