Love is a lifelong quarrel with God, but we always make up in the end.
“What is love, Father?”
“God is Love, my son.”
“I thought God was wrath and vengeance and judgment.”
“He is my son.”
“I don’t understand Father.”
“What, my son?”
“Well, how could He be both?”
“God is everything and nothing my son – it’s one of His mysteries?”
“But if God is Love then what do I feel for mommy and daddy? Brother and sister? My cat, Mittens?”
“Well my son, you are muddling the corporeal with the spiritual, the tangible with the discarnate.”
“I am confused, Father.”
“Well my son, true Love is like a fire roaring in a cave.”
“Yes?”
“And the love you feel for mommy and daddy, brother and sister, and Mittens, that is like the shadow on the wall.”
“I think I understand.”
“And the Love you feel for God, that is the flame – the heat and the light.”
“And what of the Love between you and I, Father?”
“Um, yeah, about that…let’s keep that between you, me and the Big Guy? Alright kid? Great. Now come here and give me a hug."

03/29/2004 Jimson S. Sorghum: Well-executed, but this is pretty well-trod territory, no?
03/29/2004 Mr. Pony: Jimson: you mean the "religious people are hypocrites" bit or the "sexual abuse as punchline" bit? I think they're fused pretty well here.
03/29/2004 Mr. Pony: Author: ,,,,,,,,,,,
03/29/2004 Jimson S. Sorghum: The latter, I guess. And you're right, they are well-fused. I guess I just expected this punchline is all. But the set up does make it superior to the standard fondling Father jokes.
03/29/2004 Mr. Pony (5): I think the point here is not that fathers sometimes fuck their sons. I like what is being said here.
03/29/2004 Ewan Snow (3):
03/29/2004 qualcomm (4): i fuck children.
03/29/2004 John Slocum (3): Long, relatively interesting set up for little pay off.
03/29/2004 Dylan Danko (3):
03/29/2004 Ferucio P. Chhretan (2): I dunno. That payoff switch in character really bores me.
One could argue that the father's character is revealed to be as lost as the child's, but I think it was more a quick fix and it translates uncomfortably. I do like the roaring fire versus shadows on the wall bit though. Is that said in the church? I'm not familiar with the Christian teachings and all.
03/30/2004 Benny Maniacs (4): I think it's almost a four starrer, and am correcting some one's fucked-up two star shit.
03/30/2004 Moe-Ron (4):
03/30/2004 Ewan Snow: Benny, that's very dangerous. As scoop has explained, history is littered with the corpses of people murdered by "corrected" votes. Don't be a litter bug!
03/30/2004 Mr. Joshua (4): I was a little distracted while I was reading it, but I must confess I didn't see the payoff coming. I laughed.
03/30/2004 Mr. Pony: EWAN'S COMMENTS DID NOT CONTAIN ENOUGH CAPITAL LETTERS. I AM MAKING UP FOR THAT HERE.
