The cherry blossoms fell down upon the pebbles of the garden path as Yan-wey chased Shu-sen over the little wooden bridge and across the stream. A giant slab of rock deflected the stream and caused a little waterfall. Tucked away behind the rock was a misty, shadowy pagoda that was said to be very ancient. Shu-sen ducked in to hide, but Yan-wey saw her go in.
Yan-Wey followed her in and watched her in the dark, catching her breath from the chase. She held in her hand a small jade kitten that radiated a pulsing green glow.
“What is that, Shu-sen?” asked Yan-Wey
“I was not allowed to tell you until your twelfth birthday. You would not believe how much I’ve wanted to tell you all these years, as we have grown up together here in Master Chen’s care” Shu-sen said, still gasping to catch her breath and holding the glowing jade kitten before her.
“Well, then I suppose there is no reason to rush with the explanation. I mean, you’ve waited this long, why not wait even much, much longer.”
“It’s true, I suppose I don’t have to tell you…”
“Tell me!”
“This was the jade kitten that was found in your mouth when you were born. This is the sign of the Snuggly One.” Shu-sen rubbed against Yan-wey. They strolled out to the waterfall and snuggled against the giant rock
Chapter CMXXV: A Snuggly Boy Receives a Fearful Flogging
Master Chen approached with the afternoon lessons. As he came to the giant rock he saw a snuggly boy cuddling with a disgraceful maid. Imagine his surprise when he saw who it was!
“Yan-wey, you dog’s brother! Shu-sen you goat’s neice! You will pay for your disgrace. Jun, fetch me the switch!”

04/25/2005Will Disney: Wait, who is the boy and who is the girl? Is there a maid making out with a younger boy, here?
04/25/2005anonymous: Yan-wey is the boy; Shu-sen is the girl. Master chen assumes it is a "disgraceful maid" and some "snuggly boy" when he sees them from a distance. Imagine his surprise when he saw it was his best students, Yan-wey and Shu-sen!
